Crochet Barbie Pillow Pattern

Hello! Like most of my patterns, this will be an untested pattern that is always open to corrections and tips.

This pattern will produce a pillow case to be filled with a 20×20 inch Pillow insert (or a 22×22 Inch insert for a fluffier feel) by using tapestry crochet. The only stitch used will be single crochet.

If you dont know how to do color changes for tapestry crochet, this is a good resource to learn. (link)

So, to start off heres what I needed to make this:

2 skeins of Red Heart Super Saver yarn in “PRETTY ‘N PINK”

1 skein of Big Twist Twinkle Yarn in “White”

5 mm crochet hook

scissors

tapestry or yarn needle

Chart for color changes [will be provided down below]

Note: It was a bit difficult to work with these two yarns together as the big twist yarn is not as dense as the super saver yarn, but with some blocking it seemed to even out.

And here’s some terminology:

SC= Single Crochet

CH= Chain

Now let’s begin!

Image side:

To begin, you will chain 56 +1 in pink; this is your foundation chain [a total of 57 including the turn stitch]

After this, you will be referring to the chart below. There are going to be several color changes between the white and pink throughout the row in some areas. I personally carried my yarn along the back as it wont be seen and just picked up the float every 5 stitches or so until needed. You can float or cut and weave as you go– floating was just easier for me!

I like to print the chart and mark off as I go along.

Row 1: Turn, and single crochet into the back bump of the chain down the whole chain. Chain one and turn. This will be row one of the chart. [total stich count: 56 SC and CH 1]

Row 2: SC 56, Ch 1 Turn.

Row 3: This is where the color changes begin! Again, you’ll be following the chart– so, SC 46 in pink; color change to white; 5 SC in white; Color change to pink; 5 SC in pink. CH 1, Turn. Your stitch count should continue to remain [SC 56, CH1].

Row 4-56: Continue to follow the chart, making sure to CH 1 and turn at the end of every row. At row 56, you can snip the white after your last White stitch and carry or weave in the tail.

Row 57: SC 56 in Pink only, CH 1, Tie off.*

[I prefer to leave a tail to weave in to avoid the panel from unraveling.]

Back Side:

Chain 56 +1 in pink, Turn.

Row 1: Turn, and single crochet into the back bump of the chain down the whole chain. Chain one and turn. [total stich count: 56 SC and CH 1]

Row 2-56: SC 56, CH 1, Turn.

Row 57: SC 56 , CH 1, Tie off.

Now lets put it all together!

***Optional*** if your squares do not reach the dimensions of 19×18, You can block the two sheets to those dimensions.

Once you have your two panels, You will place them right side together and stitch together with the tapestry needle and pink yarn. Be sure to leave one side open to place the pillow insert in. Once you put your insert in you can sew closed. [optional: add an invisible zipper to the open side for easy cleaning]

and that’s it! You now have a completed Barbie Pillow.
